Former Binghamton City Council member Lea Webb is running for a state Senate seat in the Southern Tier, telling voters she is “ready to fight for the growth that our region deserves.”
Webb, who in 2008 became the first and youngest African American elected to the Binghamton City Council, kicked off her campaign Thursday with announcements in Binghamton and Ithaca — two cities currently in separate Senate districts and represented by Republican lawmakers.
New York state Senate lines are currently being redrawn as part of the decennial redistricting process. Webb said she intends to run in a newly-created district that includes Tompkins County, Tioga County and a large portion of Broome County.
