Ithaca Voice: State Senate candidate Lea Webb Endorsed by Former Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton

TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y.—Democratic State Senate Candidate Lea Webb has been endorsed by former Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton, specifically mentioning Webb’s dedication to prioritizing needs of the Southern Tier and Central New York.

“Lea is an extraordinary person in many ways, but what most impresses me is her work ethic, both as an advocate and as an elected official on Binghamton’s City Council,” Lifton said in the press release. “In those roles, she has demonstrated what, to me, are the most important attributes of a public servant: caring about and listening to the people she represents, and responding with effective strategies that produce real, tangible results.”

Lifton served the New York State Assembly for 18 years before announcing she would not seek another, served as Chair of the Assembly Steering Committee and worked on the agriculture, education, election law, environment conservation and higher education committees, as well as helping enact New York Sate’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.

“I am so grateful to have the endorsement of Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton, whose years of public service and advocacy have been a tremendous inspiration to me,” Webb said. “Her work in the Assembly, particularly around education, voting rights and environmental conservation, led to some of the most influential and progressive legislative initiatives in our State.”

Webb is opposed by Leslie Danks Burke and Dr. Ammitai Worob, and the three candidates made their first public appearance together in a forum discussion hosted by Fred Balfour from WRFI and the Tompkins County Democratic Committee at the end of February. The full forum can be watched here.
