Fox 40: Lea Webb Receives Endorsement From NYSNA

Community members gathered at the Broome County Health Department today to call for healthcare reform.

In a small rally, the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) announced its endorsement of State Senate 52nd District Candidate Lea Webb. Webb was endorsed for her support of the New York State Health Act, which would create a single payer system, and aims to eventually provide universal healthcare to New York residents.

"It's not something that any family should have to decide on -- 'Do I go into medical debt to care for my loved one who has a terminal illness," Webb said. "We have to do more, we must do better, and the New York Health Act is an important piece of legislature that can help to close that gap."

For Corey Ellis, a representative of the NYSNA, it was Webb's dedication to healthcare reform that made the endorsement necessary.

"Our nurses are fighting for their patients in their communities every single day," Ellis said. "So it's important that we elect and support people who will go to the capitol and fight for the New York State Health Act."

The Democratic primary for state senate will be held on August 23.
