The Promise...

Four years ago we started this journey together to improve our neighborhoods.
You told me you felt that our neighborhood was neglected and that no one 
was listening or doing anything about it. You told me:

• You couldn't remember when our streets were last paved
  
• There were eyesores and abandoned properties everywhere
  
• There were no jobs or opportunities, for our youth
  
• Our parks were run down, neglected, and unsafe
  
• We needed a grocery store

We now have an opportunity to expand our growth and move forward in the next four years and continue to accomplish our goals.

EXPANDING JOB OPPORTUNITIES 

• Supporting grants and loan programs to small, minority, and women owned businesses through my service on the local development corporation
  
• Ensuring balance between housing and business needs by playing a lead role on the newly formed Commission on Downtown Development
  
• Helping homeowners weatherize their homes, lower utility bills, and create jobs through the launching of the Green Jobs, Green NY program
  
• Growing employment opportunities for our youth through the Summer Youth Green Jobs Corp Program

PROMOTING NEIGHBORHOOD SAFETY 

• Making it easier for residents to access housing grants and services through the Binghamton Home Ownership Academy
  
• Improving community interaction with law enforcement through the Neighborhood and Police Partnership Board
  
• Investing in positive alternatives for our youth through the expansion of Fresh Cycles, Youth Media Lab, and recreation activities
  
• Supporting the Re-Entry Task Force to prevent individuals from returning to crime

Look At What We Accomplished...

• Demolished or rehabbed 45 unsafe blighted homes and more scheduled for this year
  
• Paved 19 streets and more  scheduled for this year
  
• Improved our neighborhood parks at Columbus, Cheri Lindsey, State St, and Kennedy
  
• Established over 100 jobs and supported small business growth through VMR Electronics, Summer Youth Employment, and the Binghamton Local Development Corporation 
  
• Created and co-sponsored legislation that addresses constituent needs (Bus services and bus shelters, health care access, human rights law, & summer youth employment)
  
• Fought and  will continue to work for a grocery store on the Northside
• Made connections with all levels of government to bring resources to improve our neighborhoods
• Empowered and supported community organizations working to build stronger and healthier neighborhoods
• Partnered with the Northside Neighborhood Assembly to provide a weekly farmers market
• Sponsored and helped organize positive community events such as Juneteenth, National Night Out, and Pride Palooza
